Yesterday marked the 1 year anniversary of when I bought my cube and made all of my Volvo-loving acquaintances very angry. The day I picked her up:
For most people, one year of owning a car isn’t a big deal. But this is the second car I’ve ever owned for a year. And I’ve had 7 cars so far. Most cars make it to 6 months before I’m looking for a replacement but here I am with a cube looking for more car parts. I’m happy with it. And I really couldn’t write a fair review because of how much I enjoy the cube. But I’ll try to be somewhat fair here.
Exterior: 10/10
If you’re going to get a Cube, go ahead and get the aero package. The lip kit on mine brought it from a 7 to a 10. Nothing else on the road looks like it, it’s unique and imo that makes it look good.
Interior: 6/10
The seats are so soft and a little springy. The leather wrapped steering wheel is nice since that’s the major touch point. The plastics are cheap but it’s a cheap car. It came equipped with bluetooth, steering wheel controls, a phat double din headunit with aux jack and USB connectivity. It’s very, very spacious inside. Power seats would have been nice but I guess having 12 cupholders makes up for that?
Performance: 5/10
It gets to 60 faster in less than 10 seconds. It’s slow. Slooooooooow. But it’s not the slowest. It’s faster than a Mazda 2. And every clapped out 1998 Civic EX on the road. But that’s not what this car is about. It’s small and nimble, it moves in and out of traffic with ease. It’s not a go-kart but it doesn’t handle like a boat either.
Value: 9/10
I spent 11 grand on mine. It’s an SL, mid-level trim and dumped another 1000 bucks on OEM body kit and accessories. But you get a lot of car for that. A really good sound system from Rockford Fosgate, bluetooth, MP3/USB connectivity, tooooons of space, a shag rug for the dash. If you want a daily driver that can carry a lot of stuff and get a lot of attention, the cube does it. Since finishing the aero kit install, I’ve had 3 people come up and tell me how sweet this thing looked.
Brakes: 5/10
Disks up front and drums in the back but it’s a lightweight car and it stops when you hit the brake pedal. I never understood this category.
Total: 35/50
I think that’s a good score for this car honestly. It’s not a terrible car like some people might lead you to believe. Just because a car is slow doesn’t make it bad.

I’m glad this cube has made an honest man out of you. I’ll never never understand you car whores.

I would love to see a photo - heck, a whole series - of “stuff that fits in the back of a Cube.”
